About the Event
Struggling with the "Big Dark"? Join the Capitol Hill Historical Society for a little light. Gaslight, that is, as in the historic Gaslight Inn. On December 13th, CHHS will host a gathering at this iconic neighborhood landmark, where participants will have a chance to take a peek at the beautiful former family home, which has operated as a Bed and Breakfast since 1985. We are especially pleased to announce that Karen Treiger will be our featured speaker for the evening. Karen is a 5th generation Seattleite and a direct descendent of the building's original owners, Paul and Jenny Singerman. Seattle pioneers and co-owners of one of Seattle's earliest department stores, the Singermans built the home in 1904. Karen is a former lawyer and author of the award-winning book My Soul is Filled with Joy: A Holocaust Story, and she is now deeply engaged in writing a book about the Singermans. Karen will share her research with the audience, and there will be time for a bit of mingling. Light refreshments will be served.
The Gaslight Inn is located at 1727 15th Avenue. Given the parameters of the space, this will be a small event, so be sure to reserve your spot early if you'd like to attend. Many thanks to Joelle and Ryan Wheatley of the Inn for opening their space to the CHHS community.
